In this video from personal trainer Alistair, he discusses whether you can spot reduce body fat through exercise.
The idea of doing a million sit-ups every day and you will have a six pack is very inaccurate because your body doesn’t work like that. Well over 50% of body fat loss is due to what you put in your mouth on a daily basis. The body needs a certain number of calories to maintain body functions and therefore to reduce your body fat percentage, you need a 200-300 calorie deficit.
You will definitely build up muscle in the abdominal area from doing sit-ups but if you want to see the muscles, a caloric deficit is needed on a consistent basis. Your body loses fat everywhere at once but doesn’t just lose it in one spot. We tend to notice weight loss in our face and arms at first because there is less to lose there but your body is losing fat everywhere.
Follow these tips to lose body fat consistently:
???? Eat a diet high in protein and fibre to fill you up.
???? Drink water all day to help hydrate you and fill you up.
???? Consistently have a 200-300 caloric deficit in relation to your body’s resting metabolic rate.
???? Exercise consistently to increase the likelihood of having a caloric deficit.
???? Reduce your added sugar intake.
